Drinking for stress has always been a major problem for our profession. The stress, anxiety, and real concern we all feel during the COVID-19 pandemic only adds to the problem.

Legendary trial attorney Gary Gwilliam has been speaking to lawyers on this topic for many years. One of his talks is entitled “Am I Drinking Too Much is a Rhetorical Question.” In this time of shelter-in-place with law offices only operating remotely, it’s time to address how substance abuse impacts the legal practitioner and discuss both old and new ways to avoid excesses and find new ways to navigate these troubled waters.

  • Why substance abuse hits the legal profession particularly hard.
  • How COVID-19 has made the problem worse.
  • How COVID-19 has led to other problems such as: overeating, depression, and domestic violence.
