Investopedia defines corporate social responsibility as “a business model by which companies make a concerted effort to operate in ways that enhance rather than degrade society and the environment.” Historically, corporations have used corporate social responsibility programs to tackle heavy issues such as racism. The intensity of those efforts certainly increased after the death of George Floyd in Summer 2020.
However, what has happened since then? Have law firms and corporations continued to implement meaningful change, or have efforts become more performative and perfunctory two years later? Our panelists will provide their analysis, examples, and conclusions regarding the state of corporate social responsibility programs, and what in-house lawyers and the law firms that serve them can do to effectuate true changes.
- What measures did corporations and law firms take to implement or improve corporate racial justice and equity programs after the death of George Floyd?
- How successful were these measures?
- Where did corporations and law firms fall short in designing or implementing programs to eradicate bias, and what can be done moving forward?
- How can counsel support client corporations seeking to effectuate social and racial justice?
