The Barristers Litigation Summit consists of continuing legal education programs focused on honing knowledge and skills for professional success. The 2023 summit will focus on issues attorneys and law students from both sides of the courtroom should know. This year, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Bay Area judges and law clerks about being successful in the courtroom, as well as hear tips and tricks or having successful mediations. The conference will conclude with an empowering panel focused on women and minority litigators.

3:10 - 4:25 p.m. | MCLE: 1 Hour
This program will feature three seasoned mediators who will give advice on how newer attorneys can successfully represent their clients in mediations that lead to settlement. Additionally, for junior associates who have been told not to waste their time starting a mediation career until they have a few decades of litigation experience under their belts, we’ll discuss ways to shorten the career path and start laying the foundation for a successful career as a mediator now, not decades from now.
Topics
- Practical advice on all stages of the mediation process, including preparing clients for the mediation, the use of joint and separate sessions, overcoming impasse, memorializing settlement agreements, and post session follow-up.
- How to draft an effective mediation statement to tell your client’s story.
- What role does a 1st through 5th year associate have in a mediation and how that can lead to a career as a mediator
- Opportunities for attorneys in the early years of their careers to mediate cases through various court and pro bono programs
