In this one-hour CLE, participants will receive an introduction to legal
issues surrounding open-source software (“OSS”) and OSS licensing.
Three reasons an attorney should attend this CLE to get familiar with
OSS: 1) OSS is everywhere: Companies are increasingly using open source and releasing their own code under OSS licenses; 2) OSS legal
issues are nuanced and complex, with major impact on IP that attorneys
should be aware of; 3) Businesses are increasingly interested in OSS
license audits and compliance and including OSS-related terms into
contracts.
Topics
- Impact of OSS licenses on IP, including copyrights and patents
- OSS issues to look out for during contract negotiation.
- OSS considerations related to M&A.
- A high-level overview of important OSS case law.
