This program will introduce attendees how to advocate for a client facing astandard 100-year inclusion on the Child Abuse Central Index, a list of peoplewho are suspected of having abused or severely neglected a child in California.The California Department of Justice (DOJ) maintains the list of names andother information about people whom the Department of Children and FamilyServices (DCFS) believes more likely than not committed “abuse” or “severeneglect” of anyone under 18. It also contains the names of the children DCFShas identified as the victims of abuse or severe neglect.

  • Understand how an individual gets listed on the CACI
  • Identify which agencies and organizations use the CACI and for what purposes they check it
  • Advise clients on the effect of petition language on their CACI listing and how to timely request a grievance hearing
  • Defense strategies for obtaining a successful administrative hearing
  • How to “appeal” an administrative hearing determination
  • How to request amendment of the CACI listing even after the timeline for administrative review through a writ of mandamus in civil court
*This training is required by our San Francisco Superior Court for all members of the Juvenile Dependency Panel. Private practitioners interested in joining the Juvenile Dependency Panel are welcome as well.

Program recordings are not guaranteed and/or included with this registration, nor immediately accessible to registrants. Approved recordings of live programs are converted to On-Demand CLE Courses and available for separate purchase through a third-party library 30 business days after the live recording. Substitution, Cancellation, and Refund Requests
For CLE events of 1.5 hours or less, Lunch & Learn programs, Happy Hours, Receptions, and Mixers, a refund is available if you submit your cancellation request at least 48 hours prior to the event. A $10 handling fee will deducted from your refund. Please complete the Event Cancellation Form.

For CLE events longer than 1.5 hours, and for special events such as conferences, symposiums, professional development training programs, a 50% refund is available if you cancel at least 10 business days prior to the event. Please complete the Event Cancellation Form.

If you are unable to attend, you may send a substitute. Please complete the Event Cancellation Form.
